Hi, You have an account on the D'Agents group machines which are located in lab 007 in the Sudikoff building. The names of the machines are agent1, solitaire, shasta, and mayday. They are all running RedHat Linux 6.2 (except Shasta which is running RH 7.3). Your user name and password should be the same as those for your Computer Science account. The disks are backed up at least once a week. There is also a disk to disk backup made at around 2am each night that you can access yourself at /u1/backup/home/ if you ever accidentally delete a file you need. Don't use this area to store new files though, since they will be overwritten each night. There is a CD-R writer available on agent1 that can be accessed via the program xcdroast (you may have to ask us to add permissions to your account to use it.) We insist that you use SSH and SCP for remote access instead of ftp and telnet (see http://agent.cs.dartmouth.edu/internal/sshguide.html for a guide to using ssh.) A Mac version of ssh and scp is available for free at: http://www.lysator.liu.se/~jonasw/freeware/niftyssh/ and versions for other OS's are available for free at: http://www.ssh.com (click on their "noncommercial" button in the store, Mac version might be available from them soon.) We use NIS to maintain a password database so use yppasswd instead of the passwd command to change your password. The default shell is bash. If you'd like another email me. If you have any trouble getting in or using your account please let me (rapjr@cs.dartmouth.edu) know. Ron Peterson rapjr@cs.dartmouth.edu Senior Programmer/Sys Admin D'Agents Group
