Quick Instructions for How to Set the Optimus Cassette Recorders
For Recording a Conversation or Meeting

To record:

1) Connect external microphones to recorders MIC input.
2) Set MIC SENSITIVITY to HI.
3) Set REC SPEED to NORM.
4) Set DIRECTION to FWD.
5) Set VOX to OUT.
6) Set VOICE ZOOM to ON.
7) Set PAUSE to OFF.
8) The VOLUME and PLAYBACK settings don't matter during recording.
9) Clip the external microphones to something soft and point
   them UP.  They have a hemispherical pickup pattern.
10) Turn ON the external microphones!
11) Press the red RECORD button to start recording.

* You can test the recorders by recording something and
  playing it back through the built-in speaker.  This will
  ensure that the microphones are properly connected and
  turned on.
* When the DIRECTION switch is set to FWD the REWIND button
  is the one next to the STOP button.  If the DIRECTION
  switch is set to REV the same button is now the FAST FORWARD
  button.
* The tape should reverse direction and continue recording
  when it reaches the end of the first side, and stop
  completely when it reaches the end of the second side.
* You can check the batteries using the LED's on the
  front of the recorder by pressing STOP.
* The microphone batteries should last a long long time, even
  if they are left on, but try to turn them off when you're
  done with them.
* Set REC SPEED to EXT to get double the recording time at the
  cost of lower fidelity.
* VOICE ZOOM cuts high and low frequencies to accentuate voices.
* You should get 8 hours battery life with new AA alkalines.
